LehtoPeat Ltd. has a long tradition in the processing of natural Finnish peat. The company’s founder and entrepreneur, Heikki Ruha, has over 30 years of experience in the peat industry.

In the beginning of the company, LehtoPeat produced and lifted fuel peat only. An excellent quality layer of treatment peat was found in the company-owned peatland named Lehtosuo. That inspired the company to try the production of treatment peat.

Nowadays, production is almost exclusively for the raising of treatment peat and its processing into finished high quality products. LehtoPeat Ltd. has played a major pioneering role in the peat industry field. 

The “Treatment Peat of Lehtosuo – LehtoPeat®” brand was registered in early 2002. 

Riitta Korhonen the peat scientist and geologist of the geological research centre of Finland, has been a great help in the organization of the production of treatment peat. 

Lehtosuo treatment peat deposits were analysed and the results were promising. We found out that the peat layer found in Lehtosuo is very old and its composition is ideal for treatment peat.

The production of treatment peat requires unique and special skills. 

The company’s owners underwent training in an educational project organized and funded by the European Union called “A livelihood from the peatland” in 1997. The program had the best experts in the field who trained the participants in the secrets of treatment peat expertise. Finland has most likely the best know-how about treatment peat in the whole world.
